Beloved radio host Stuart McLean was recently diagnosed with Melanoma. While he insists that this news is “not quite as ominous as it sounds,” he has decided to cancel the Vinyl Cafe’s holiday tour.
McLean posted on his program’s website and Facebook page, explaining his prognosis:
“Melanoma, which was once a deadly diagnosis, has, over the last couple of years, become eminently treatable. The treatment is, as my wonderful doctor describes it, the poster child of cancer therapy.”
According to his doctor, McLean has a 85 percent chance of a positive outcome once he completes immunotherapy treatment.
McLean went on to say that while he is optimistic about treatment, he was worried about the impact immunotherapy will have on him physically. He decided to cancel his tour for fear of not being “my best self.” McLean apologized to those who were planning on attending the shows.
“I know this is a disappointment to those of you who are looking forward to the show. It is a disappointment to me too. It feels like I invited everyone to dinner and am calling to say the party’s off. I don’t know what to say except I am sorry.”
Ticket holders will be refunded starting Tuesday. McLean plans to “reconvene” next Christmas for another holiday tour.
