One of our time’s most influential musicians, Bob Dylan, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in literature this Thursday. As the first American to win the award since novelist Toni Morrison in ’93, the Swedish Academy says that the singer-songwriter has, “created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” The prize apparently came as a surprise to the 75-year-old icon, whose work does not conventionally fit into the prize’s guidelines and parameters as seen through prior winners. We suppose the times they are a-changin’! Congratulations, Bob!
