Hifi Salutes: Red Robinson

Red Robinson is one of Canada’s leading pioneers in radio broadcasting with a career spanning nearly 60 years. As a teenager he worked at CJOR in Vancouver and won the praise of his contemporaries by playing music that other likeminded teenagers wanted to hear: rock and roll. Of all the recording artists that he interviewed, his most memorable was Buddy Holly. “We were the same age,” he says, “and full of life and loved what we were doing. You don’t forget that.” Another moment Red will always remember was when John Lennon yelled at him to get off the stage during a Beatles concert where he was the emcee. We’d never forget that either, Red!
