British photographer Alan Powdrill is challenging assumptions about what kind of people get tattoos with his new series Covered. Powdrill takes photos of people dressed in their everyday clothes, and then takes a second photo of them semi-naked to reveal their tattoo-covered bodies. He displays the photos side by side, showing that tattoos are no longer just for punks or sailors.
Each photo in the series is accompanied by a brief quote about the person’s experience with tattoos. Some started getting tattooed when they were in their teens, while others didn’t get started until they were in their 40s or 50s. Across the board all the subjects love their body art, and are more than happy to show it off to the world.
Powdrill will be exhibiting the full collection of portraits this month in London. To learn more about his work check out his website.
