When some nature-loving good people at the California Wildlife Center (CWC) found a northern mockingbird with a foot condition common in young birds (called knuckled feet) that inhibited its ability to walk, they decided to fashion tiny snowshoes made out of cardboard, tape, and a little determination. The Dodo reported the story quoting CWC veterinarian, Duane Tom: “Essentially, we used pieces of cardboard to tape her toes into their proper position. It usually takes a week or two of wearing the snowshoes before their feet are back to normal.”

The article also states that the bird’s feet were successfully restored and they were able to release her back into the wild with a new lease on life.
