After 30 years of making documentaries, Gary Marcuse found himself at a desk job. On his 58th birthday he decided it was time for a new challenge. He wanted to try scuba diving.
“I was really seized with a feeling that I wanted to get underwater and stay there.”
He decided to try diving off the coast of BC, so he could experience northern waters before heading on a trip to the Red Sea. It proved to be a unique experience.
“We finished off our last classes in a snowstorm. I came to the surface and I was thinking ‘what a Canadian sport this is!'”
Now, Gary is going to start using an underwater camera rig, combining his love of film with his love of the water.
Make sure you check out part two of this series and see Gary capture underwater footage for the first time.
