How Urban Farming Can Change The World

For Arlene Hazzan Green and Marc Green, the time had come to make a change in their lives. When the stock market crashed in 2008, work seemed to dry up for the couple working in the film industry and after watching a movie about oil use and its depletion, they decided to switch gears. “[The movie] was our first impetus. How will life be when we run out of oil? It was a real eye opener,” Marc says.

That’s when they founded Bufco.ca—The Backyard Urban Farm Company—a family-run organic vegetable landscaping company that builds, installs, plants, and maintains edible gardens for residential and commercial clients throughout Toronto. They no longer wanted to be a part of the problem when it comes to consuming the Earth’s natural resources, they opted to be the solution. Not only is their gardening important for their business and way of life, but so is photography. Using a Canon EOS Rebel T6s, Arlene and Marc take photos of their garden for marketing and promotional purposes, but also for pleasure.
