You know that feeling of getting into a great book, but wishing your surroundings were quieter so that you could concentrate better? Perhaps that’s one idea behind this small black cabin library in the woods in New York state. U.S. firm Studio Padron created this one-room library with a place to sleep—it’s called Hemmelig Rom, meaning secret room, in Norwegian. Online design pub Dezeen explains that the cabin was a long time in the making. “After being cut into large rectangular log sections, the wood was left to dry for several years on site,” they report. Two picture windows that connect the library to the forest outside enables the radiant light to shine through. This sure takes the concept of a cozy reading nook to the next level!
