When the threat of Russian bombers making their way into Canada came too close for everyone’s comfort, the Royal Canadian Airforce had one (secret) request—and not a small one either. It came in the form of the Avro Arrow, a supersonic fighter jet that could challenge its nuclear bomb-wielding enemies by travelling from its home base to its target, unload some missiles taking down three or four bomber jets, and then return home faster than the speed of sound. No western nation at the time had any jet like it. Engineers came together from around the world—including England and Eastern Europe—to build the brand new aircraft from scratch for a small company called Avro Canada.
