We all know that exercise is good for your health, but did you know that it can potentially make your brain grow stronger? An article by the New York Times written by Gretchen Reynolds suggests that exercise promotes the growth of the body’s production of a substance called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (B.D.N.F.). Scientists refer to this substance as “Miracle-Gro” for the brain because it helps neurons grow and strengthens the synapses that connect neurons, which gives the brain better functionality. Scientists now know that exercise creates additional B.D.N.F., but they’re not exactly sure why.
